CENTRAL Midlands League Clipstone Welfare were rocked this week by the sudden resignation of manager Daron Thorpe and his assistant Dave Mason.
Under the leadership of Thorpe and Mason, the club won the Phoenix Trophies Floodlit Cup and finished in fifth place in the Supreme Division in the season just ended.
But Thorpe admitted to being frustrated by what he described as the lack of support on offer from the parent body, the Miners' Welfare, to take the club forward, and the pair tendered their resignations on Tuesday night.
The resignations were accepted at last night's club committee meeting.
"We've achieved much this season," Thorpe told Chad, "and we've showed that the club is capable of going forward to new heights.
"We've done all this without a playing budget, and we hoped that the Welfare would have supported us on the back of that success, but they don't seem to want to do that.
"Twice I've fixed up meetings with Welfare officials to discuss how to take the club forward, but on both occasions no-one has shown up from the Welfare.
"I've enjoyed my 18 months at the club, but you get these setbacks in football, and I wish the club well in the future.
"We'd assembled a very good squad on no budget but I guess a few of the players will now be looking to play at a higher level, and unfortunately that's not going to be with Clipstone."
Thorpe told Chad he had turned one offer down from another club, which he preferred not to name.
"I've got a young family so I'm not going to rush back into the first job that comes along," he said.
Club secretary John Tait revealed: "The committee reluctantly accepted the resignations of Daron and Dave. We are disappointed to lose them and thank them for all they have done for the club.
"Dave indicated that he and Daron came as a package."
Mr Tait added: "The Welfare are getting back behind us in terms of upgrading the ground, and there is a lot forthcoming on that issue.
"We have already had a preliminary grading inspection for step six, so we know what we have to do, and the Welfare have indicated that they are ready to help us in that respect.
"But they are not prepared to go down the path of funding a playing budget, unless a sponsor becomes available."
The club are now inviting written applications for the post of manager which, it is emphasised, will be unpaid.

Red, Daz Thorpe might already have been interviewed for all you know. Remember my thread of a cople of weeks ago asking who supporters would like and Daz was the one I would have picked to manage the LIONS but apart from animal, who came up with an excellent candidate, no one else bothered.

For all you know Bill Fossey might be a contender!!! or even Stuart Pearce or as I understand it Billy Davis is not totally happy at Pride Park.

Quite right Animal why would they want to come to Heanor unless it's to use it as a stepping stone to possibly greater things. They could have been promised new changing rooms and fully repired floodlights and a decent budget for players expenses one thing is well never know the truth!!!

Red, My sincere apologies if you feel that way, I do not intend to offend any supporter or player at Heanor Town, and that includes you! I had heard that Das Thorpe had been interviewed a couple of weeks ago and a second interview had been arranged, more than that I dont know. The other bit was tongue in cheek but you never know there might be some truth in what I have suggested, time will tell!

Hang on Red, I didn't say that the second interview took place or that an offer had been made, or, if it had that it had been accepted. I am not party to that information and what I heard was not official.

Dont jump to conclusions it could still be Billy Davis Wink Wink
